On January 27, 2009 a major ice and snow storm left 700,000 people in Kentucky without power. Temperatures were cold, nightly lows dipped below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, and people struggled to stay warm. In addition to the power outages, the severe weather caused pipes to freeze, leaving residents without running water. The conditions across the state were so bad that President Obama declared the Commonwealth of Kentucky in State of Emergency.
We went 118 hours without power, which was about all we could take. However, now several weeks out from the storm, some residents are still without power.
